APIA Scholars Jump Start College Tour Delivers College Success Strategies, Financial Aid Knowledge, and College Application Tips to Boston

Washington, D.C. – [October 3, 2018] – APIA Scholars, formerly known as Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF), the nation’s leading non-profit organization devoted to providing college scholarships for Asian Pacific Islander Americans (APIAs), will hold its next stop of the 2018 Jump Start College Tour (JSCT) at the University of Massachusetts Boston on October 20, 2018 from 9:00 am to 3:15 pm. JSCT is a free college readiness workshop tour that partners with the nation’s Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs) to provide culturally relevant financial aid and college success strategies to APIA students and families.

“The transition from high school to college is exciting but also a mysterious process for those experiencing it for the first time. Programs like the Jump Start College Tour are especially important to underserved communities and provide the necessary tools to ensure success in higher education,” said Ms. Noel Harmon, President and Executive Director of APIA Scholars. “Over the years, APIAS and Wells Fargo have assisted many scholars and their families, make this transition successfully and they are now thriving in colleges and their careers.”

“Since 2013, Wells Fargo has collaborated with APIAS to bring the Jump Start College Tour to more than 2,250 students and family members across the nation in support of high school students’ transition to college,” said Jimmie Paschall, Executive Vice President, Enterprise Diversity & Inclusion and Strategic Philanthropy at Wells Fargo. “We know all students who have the opportunities and resources are more likely to stay in school and obtain a degree, and APIA students are no different. We are committed to seeing that each and every community, including APIAs, make higher education a priority and reality.”

JSCT participants are given an opportunity to visit AANAPISI schools to attend workshops held by admissions staff and financial aid experts who offer tips on the admissions and financial aid process on the spot. All stops include both parent and student sessions. The 2018 Jump Start College Tour is made possible by our featured sponsors AT&T, Eversource, and founding sponsor, Wells Fargo.
