Washington, D.C. – June 25, 2019 – APIA Scholars successfully completed their Spring 2019 Jump Start College Tours (JSCT) in Hayward, California and Atlanta, Georgia. The spring events, held at California State University, East Bay and Georgia State University on April 6 and 27, attracted more than 330 students and parents in total.

The Spring Jump Starts received very positive feedback from participants, with more than 94% of attendees rating the overall experience as “above average or excellent”, and 96% highly recommending JSCT to other students and parents.

“I feel inspired to do what I want now that I have the knowledge about [how to] apply to colleges,” wrote one of the student attendees.

“Very useful and informative, especially for me as a first time mom to have a kid invested in going to college/university,” said a parent attendee.

JSCT is a free college readiness workshop that partners with the nation’s Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISIs) to provide culturally relevant financial aid and college success strategies to APIA students and families. Since 2013, JSCT has held 21 college tours on campuses across the nation.

“The transition from high school to college is exciting but also a mysterious process for those experiencing it for the first time.  Programs like the Jump Start College Tour are especially important to underserved communities and provide the necessary tools to ensure success in higher education,” said Ms. Noël Harmon, President and Executive Director of APIA Scholars.  “Over the years, APIAS and Wells Fargo have assisted many students and their families make this transition successfully and they are now thriving in colleges and their careers.”

“Wells Fargo is a proud to be the Founding Sponsor of the APIA Scholars’ Jump Start College Tour,” said Arati Randolph, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications at Wells Fargo and APIA Scholars board member. “Our partnership with APIA Scholars has helped more than 2,500 students and family members across the nation receive the support and resources they need to make informed decisions about how to get to and through college. We are committed to seeing that each and every community, including APIAs, make higher education a priority and reality.”

The series will kick off again in the fall with tours at the University of California, Irvine and the University of Texas at Dallas. The Jump Start College Tour is made possible by our Founding Sponsor, Wells Fargo, and Featured Sponsors, FedEx and General Motors.
