[Updated January 30, 2023] APIA Scholars sends our deepest condolences to the victims and their families of the horrific shooting in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay during the week of Lunar New Year, a time when many in the Asian community celebrate new beginnings and the opportunity to reunite with family and friends. We grieve for the victims and for these communities which now must find a way to process this unspeakable act of violence that not only took lives, but also the sense of security and peace everyone deserves to have in their own city.

Those who are in the Los Angeles area can call 211 to talk anytime to LA vs Hate. To all of our Scholars, we want you to know we are here for you and to let you know we offer free mental health support to you via the meta telehealth app. To everyone in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, our grief may impact us for a long time to come and we join Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL) in sharing the free help lines available in seven Asian languages.
