220 Students Selected as Class of 2017-18 APIASF AANAPISI Scholars

Washington, D.C. – March 8, 2018 – This year, the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund, the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted to providing college scholarships for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans (APIAs), selected 220 students to receive the APIASF Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) Scholarship. The APIASF AANAPISI Scholarship Program is a collaboration with AANAPISI-designated colleges to provide scholarships, expand campus programs, and mobilize local resources to help foster economic development in the local community. It is the largest scholarship of its kind.

APIASF AANAPISI Scholars are selected based on demonstrated commitment to community service, strong leadership, solid academic achievement, and financial need to pursue a college education. 48% of this year’s AANAPISI Scholars are first in their family to attend college, and 60% live at or below the poverty line. “APIASF is proud to support high potential APIA students who would not otherwise be able to afford a college education,” said Neil Horikoshi, President and Executive Director of APIASF. “It is especially important for APIASF to partner with AANAPISI institutions to support APIA students to become role models and future leaders in their communities.”

This year’s Class of APIASF AANAPISI Scholars attend 30 different colleges and represent nearly 30 APIA ethnic subgroups. A complete list of the recipients and more information about the APIASF AANAPISI Scholarship Program can be found here.
