At APIA Scholars, our mission has always been clear: to equip students not only to succeed in college—but to thrive long after. That’s why we’re proud to introduce a new pilot initiative that removes a major barrier on the path from college to career: financial support for our Scholars while they pursue internships and other career development opportunities.
Introducing the Career Development Fund
We are launching the Career Development Fund, a pilot program designed to support up to 20 current APIA Scholars pursuing internships or other career-building experiences.
While internships are often a critical stepping stone into the workforce, they frequently come with out-of-pocket costs—especially when they are unpaid or based in high-cost areas. These expenses can include housing, relocation, food, or even appropriate workplace attire. For many students, particularly those who are low-income or first-generation, these financial challenges make it nearly impossible to participate.
Our new fund helps change that.
Bridging the Gap Between College and Career
Students selected for this opportunity grant can request up to $2,500 to help offset common costs associated with their career opportunity. Eligible expenses include:
Why It Matters
Career development programs—like internships—are proven to improve academic outcomes and lead to stronger employment prospects. But many of these experiences remain out of reach for students without financial support.
How It Works
Students submit a simple application outlining their career opportunity, financial need, and what support they’re requesting. If approved, they’ll receive funding to help cover costs and are asked to submit receipts and a short reflection after the experience—so their story can inspire future Scholars.
What’s Next
The Career Development Fund pilot is set to launch this summer, and we’re excited to learn from this first phase. Our goal is to expand the program in future years—scaling its reach and deepening its impact.
By supporting students during this crucial transition period, we are reaffirming our commitment to the full student journey—from scholarship support to long-term success in the workforce.
