Most mental health service providers are native English speakers, but many APIA individuals are limited English proficient (LEP). Overall, 57% of Asian Americans, including 71% of Asian American adults, were born in another country, and rates of proficiency vary within specific subgroups. That is, over half of Vietnamese and nearly half of Chinese, Korean, and Thai Americans are LEP, and 40% of Cambodian, Bangladeshi, Laotian, Hmong Americans, and Micronesian are also LEP.
