Career Capital: Building Skills and Experiences that Pay Off

At APIA Scholars, we support our Scholars with Scholarships as well as intentional programming. We are equally focused on student success from college to career, ensuring Scholars thrive beyond the classroom with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

In our Career Capital virtual workshop, we helped Scholars learn how to: ​

• Understand the importance career capital and define which skills and experiences hold the most long-term value for their respective industries.​
• Identify on and off campus opportunities to build transferable skills that strengthen future career pursuits  ​
• Learn actionable strategies to navigate the internship and job search process ​

Turning Learning into Opportunities

Through breakout groups by various career tracks, session led discussions and shared tips with Scholars on skills relevant to career roles and strategies that can bridge a student into future opportunities. Breakout groups included Health & Medicine + Education& Human Development, STEM + Law, Government, and Policy, and Business & Entrepreneurship + Arts, Media, and Communications + Social Impact & Nonprofit.

Impactful Outcomes

Post-workshop feedback showed the effectiveness of the programming:

• 100% of attendees said the content was relevant to their career goals
• 100% of attendees reported the workshop provided practical tools or insights that they can apply to their career journey
• 100% of attendees reported learning about skills and experience that are most important to their prospective industry

Why This Work Matters

Workshops like Career Capital prepare Scholars with skills on how to manage their career path, hear from industry leaders who are also APIA Scholars alumni, and connect with each other. With donor support, APIA Scholars is able to deliver relevant and impactful programs that helps Scholars succeed in their career as well as academic journeys.
