Reporting to: Director of Scholarship Solutions and Partnerships

Start date: July 22, 2024

Location: Washington, DC Metropolitan area

Salary range: $44,000-$66,000

Job classification: Full-time, exempt

 

The Scholarships Associate is responsible for managing the central hub of communication, outreach, and fund tracking for the Scholarships department. This role will specifically focus on solutions related to emergency grants, new pilot programs, and supporting AANAPISI scholarship partners. The Scholarships department annually selects and awards the Asian & Pacific Islander American (APIA) General and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Scholarships, with an average of $2.4 million awarded to 500 students each year. This position is based in Washington, DC.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as an information resource to applicants and current scholars who inquire or have questions about emergency grants or new solutions being piloted by the Scholarships Team, such as explaining the eligibility, process, and status of disbursement
  • This role will also partner closely with the Student Success Team to ensure a seamless experience for students
  • Designs outreach materials in collaboration with the Marketing and Communication and Student Success departments to promote and advertise emergency grants or other pilot solutions to targeted audiences
  • Processes and monitors scholar document submissions, including contacting individuals for additional documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Responds to email and phone inquiries from applicants and awardees regarding the status of their application and/or award
  • Works closely with Finance and Operations department to reconcile and/or audit scholarship funds every other month including contacting universities and students to understand the circumstances around funds being returned
  • Provides support to the Director of Scholarship Solutions and Partnerships for AANAPISI scholarship partners
  • Provides logistical and event support for organization programs including fundraising events, higher education summits, and other national convenings
  • Undertakes other duties and responsibilities that are assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 0-2 years of related work experience
  • Associate’s degree minimum. Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience working with high school or college students, particularly those of historically underrepresented, first-generation, and/or low-income backgrounds
  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander cultures and experiences, and the issues affecting these communities
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Flexibility and the ability to multi-task and prioritize competing deadlines
  • Perform work with accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and the ability to work independently and in team settings
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to tailor messaging to a variety of diverse stakeholders/constituents
  • Interest in understanding and applying processes within innovative technology platforms related to and in support of the holistic student experience
  • Commitment to social justice causes, especially with an emphasis on working towards educational equity and providing resources for vulnerable student populations
  • Familiarity with basic Microsoft Excel functions and Salesforce platform
  • Comfortability using Microsoft Office suite, Google Suite, Zoom and other virtual meeting platforms

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience.
